Health Canada, under the direction of The Honorable Allan Rock, named the Prostate Centre at VGH, the BC Cancer Agency and the Tzu Chi Institute as the Vancouver Centre of Excellence in Prostate Cancer, with a grant of $10 million.

1999
Vancouver businessman, Jim Pattison, donates $20 million to the Prostate Centre at VGH, the largest private donation ever made to a health care facility in Canada. The VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation launched a $45 million campaign to raise matching funds.

2001
The Canadian Prostate Cancer Research Initiative awards $600,000 to the Prostate Centre at VGH, for the creation of a Training and Education Centre for Prostate Cancer.

The Terry Fox Foundation/NCIC announces that Dr. Rennie and his team of investigators have been awarded a five-year renewal research grant totalling $6.3 million to continue their work on the study of prostate cancer progression.

Federal Health Minister Allan Rock, Provincial Health Minister Colin Hansen and a host of dignitaries offically open the Prostate Centre's Gene Array Facility.

UBC Senate sanctions the Prostate Centre as the UBC Centre of Excellence for Prostate Research.

Genome BC names the Prostate Centre's Gene Array Facility as its Microarray Platform.
